Supervision

Clinical Supervision to better equip you for the demands of your therapeutic work with clients of all ages.

“Good supervision is at the heart of keeping us safe and sane as therapists.”

What is Supervision?

Supervision in clinical practice is when a professional counsellor/psychotherapist uses the services of another counsellor or psychotherapist to review the way they work with their clients. The diagram provides some of the key areas of exploration during supervision sessions.

Supervision is a key requirement by many professional counselling/therapeutic membership and regulatory bodies such as the BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists) HCPC (Health Care Professional Council) BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) to ensure all practitioners in practice are keeping their skills up to date and that they work in a safe and ethical way. Whether you are in private practice or working for an organisation as a Psychotherapist, Art Therapist, Play Therapist, Counsellor, or Therapist. Supervision forms part of one’s own continuous professional and personal development. Supervision is therefore what makes counselling a managed and professional activity.

Discussing your clinical work with a supervisor and getting feedback enables practitioners to gain an objective insight into their own performance and skills. It provides an opportunity to learn and practise new skills and to find better ways to help clients. Debriefing is also an important element of the supervisory relationship, enabling the therapist to look objectively at the issues raised during client session and their response to them.

My Private Practice at Art Therapy Works offers clinical supervision to a wide range of counsellors and therapists’, so whether you are in private practice or working for an organisation as a Psychotherapist, Art Therapist, Play Therapist, Counsellor, or Mentor, I hope you will get in touch to find out how I might be able to support you in your therapeutic work.

For me personally supervision is like a labyrinth we journey into the centre and back out feeling richer for the shared experience and the supportive nature that supervision and mentoring provides.

I offer face to face meetings at my studio in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, as well as the option to meet via zoom if that is more convenient.
